Bodywork & Somatic Healing Saved my Life:
How my body and psyche became my instruments instead of my burdens
Before that, I was depressed and confused, struggling with emotions that seemed to have no known source, and experiencing physical pain in places that were predictable and unpredictable, acute and chronic, and that got in the way of enjoying my life over and over again.
As a queer first-generation German-American, I pushed myself to succeed, past mornings filled with fear, pain, anger, overwhelm, and awful feelings about the body I inhabited. Instead of falling into despair, I began a journey to overcome physical pain and instability, emotional dysregulation, body dysphoria/dysmorphia, and chronic depression.
Along the way, I completed a Masters in Bodywork at the Alive and Well! Institute of Conscious Bodywork that helped me begin to free my body of the adhesions and traumas that exacerbated my natural hypermobility. I trained in NeuroMuscular Reprogramming with Jocelyn Oliver, and after graduating, I decided to rewrite her entire curriculum for greater ease of comprehension and to include more advanced and up-to-date levels of the work. I went on to spend 5 years teaching NeuroMuscular Reprogramming in cities across the U.S., while Supervising the Healus Neuro Rehab Center in Marin, and running a private practice in Berkeley.
One of my core strengths is strategic problem solving.
One of my core strengths is strategic problem solving, and I always felt that there was hope for me, if I could properly understand and approach my various problems. In a certain way, I felt I had no choice. When it is your mind, and your body that are in pain, there is no choice but to keep searching, and to find new ways. My determination gave way to a decade-long process of learning, insight, and application. At times success came easily, and at times it took years. My own lack of proper diagnoses, and my client’s lack of proper diagnoses, lead me on a decade long journey of integrating an enormous number methods into my personal practice and my bodywork practice.
My current practice includes the following modalities: NeuroMuscular Reprogramming, Craniosacral Therapy, Myofascial Release work, Educational Kinesiology, Visceral and Lymphatic Massage, Inner Child and Inner Critic Integration work, Internal Family Systems Integration work, Medical Intuition, Superconscious & Theta Healing, Experiential Somatics, Emotional Release work, Ancestral Healing work, and EPAT Shockwave Therapy.
Looking back on my journey, I had so many times when I faltered, and thought life was over for me. My life was marked by a massive birth trauma, early childhood sexual trauma, and numerous other physical injuries in childhood. I overcame narcissistic abuse and gender dysphoria.
I feel so lucky to enjoy a life today with balanced emotions that feel like my friends and confidents. I feel such a deep love and forgiveness for myself, and a deep well of forgiveness and understanding for my parents and ancestors. I am able to maintain my body and hypermobility so that I am pain-free, and can dance, swim, play, and do the work that I love.
I have been in private practice for 12 years, and I consider it a great honor to be able to help others become pain-free. I feel that we have all suffered long enough, and for this reason I have always specialized primarily in treating Complex and Chronic pain. Often, the cause of pain is underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed, and people are left in slowly degenerating painful conditions. I have come to understand that the body has many layers of function, and that dysregulation can occur at any level for various reasons, and must be thoroughly addressed at all levels that have been affected for healing and full pain remission to occur.
As a bodyworker, healer, and coach, I believe that pain is one of our greatest teachers, and that pain can be used as a life line to draw us back to our sites of injury, where real healing can occur.
As a bodyworker, healer, and coach, I believe that pain is one of our greatest teachers, and that pain can be used as a life line to draw us back to our sites of injury, where real healing can occur. By learning to trust my body, my emotions, and my sensations, I have been able to cultivate a real intimacy and trust with myself and with life. I love to bring that knowledge and wisdom, strategy and surrender into a two-way conversation with my client’s bodies, their emotions, and their sensations. We are so much more complex, intelligent, sensitive and nuanced than we know. Our bodies want to heal, and are screaming and crying for the opportunity to be felt and moved, touched and freed.
I specialize in working with people who have chronic pain, complex pain, and pain of unknown origin. This includes people with fibromyalgia, chronic regional pain syndrome, fascial disorders, adult scoliosis, TMJ disorders, complex neck pain, chronic headaches & migraines, and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome & Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder. I work to resolve pain in every area of the body. Different areas of the body are not separate, but part of a larger whole that must work together for true integration and healing to occur.
My work also addresses aspects of disturbed sleep, chronic fatigue syndrome, “burnout”, relational distress, emotional dysregulation, IBS, digestive trouble, POTS, hypersensitivity, PTSD and complex PTSD. I especially love complex neck problems, and eliminating childhood scoliosis before it becomes chronic.
My mission is to help you free your body and psyche from debilitating effects of chronic pain. I am here to help you connect more deeply to yourself, so that you can understand and face the source of your pain, in a safe and supportive environment. Together, we can discover where your pain began and resource the tools and approaches necessary to find were it ends. If your body is in crying out, I’m here to help you heed the call.
In love and Freedom,
Ayden Winter
